Membership Gallery

The Salt Grass Patters organization was originally founded in 1974 by ceramic students at the College of the Mainland with the goal to promote the ceramic arts through education and exhibition.  Additionally, the founding members made plans to share information, access sales sites, and purchase materials collectively.  Over a quarter of a century later, with a much-expanded roster, Salt Grass Potters retain the same purpose and advocate a high standard of quality work.

Our current membership includes founding members, students, professional potters and art instructors from local colleges and universities, as well as those who are employed in other areas yet continue to pursue their art.  Members of Salt Grass Potters meet once a month to exchange ideas, expertise, and information on workshops, exhibits, and sales venues.

Salt Grass Potters is also supportive of various charitable efforts, such as “empty bowl” fundraisers and organizes workshops, demonstrations, and gallery tours for members.  The public is invited to the Salt Grass Potters’ annual Spring Sale and year-end Holiday Sale, which is traditionally held in the Clear Lake area of Houston.

Our love of clay with its tactile appeal, the exciting experience of firing, as well as the creation of original pottery and sculpture bind our organization together.  The extreme diversity of styles, ceramic technique, and innovative spirit is reflected in the exciting collection of clay works produced by Salt Grass Potters.

The Salt Grass Potters organization is a member of the Texas Clay Arts Association and a sponsor of The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake.
